You may obtain a free library card if you are 18 or over and either own property in Delaware or reside in Delaware. Bring photo ID along with proof of property ownership or residency.For Delaware residents under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present to cosign and assume responsibility for borrowed materials.

Nonresidents may obtain a 1 month card for $10.00, or a year-long card for $25.00. Photo ID is required. For more information visit delawarelibraries.org and download your Sussex County Library Registration Form.


You must have your library card or your photo ID to use the computers or take out anything from the library. You do not need your card to use materials inside the library or attend programs. Get the Delaware Libraries Mobile app and you can use your digital library card!

You can renew online, in-person or by phone. We will simply ask you to verify your address, email, contact number, and account preferences. Cards need renewal every three years. All outstanding fines and fees must be paid before renewal.

DVDs may be borrowed for three weeks. Most other library materials have a lending period of 3 weeks, including books, audios, music and magazines.Some materials may have a shortened loan period due to high demand.

You may return Delaware public library books to any public library within the state of Delaware. We will make sure that materials get back to their proper home. The South Coastal Library has two outside drop-off slots near the front entrance, one for books and one for audio-visual materials.

If your items are overdue, bring them back as soon as you can. The fines stop adding up as soon as the materials are checked in and the items will be available for others to use. If you have lost an item, please tell us as soon as possible so that we can let you know what the replacement costs will be.

The library has one scanner for public use. The scanner is connected to the public print release station. At the station, you may scan and/or fax a document from here to a fax number (US and Canada only), a USB device, or your smart phone with a QR Reader app. Faxing costs $0.25 per page. Printing is $0.10 per page for black and white or $0.25 per page for color. Scanning is free of charge.

Yes, the library offers free wireless connection. And it is available in our parking lot, garden area and throughout the building. Simply connect to either ‘Library-Public’ or ‘Library-Outdoors’ Network. Learn more.
