How do I get a library card?
You may obtain a free library card if you are 18 or over and either own property in Delaware or reside in Delaware. Bring photo ID along with proof of property ownership or residency. For Delaware residents under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present to cosign and assume responsibility for borrowed materials.
Nonresidents may obtain a 1 month card for $10.00, or a year-long card for $25.00. Photo ID is required. For more information visit delawarelibraries.org and download your registration form.
How and when do I renew my library card? Just present your library card and photo ID to a library staffer during your next library visit. Cards need renewal every year. All outstanding fines and fees must be paid before renewal.
How long can I keep library materials?
DVDs may be borrowed for one week. Most other library materials have a lending period of 3 weeks, including books, audios, music and magazines. Some materials may have a shortened loan period due to high demand.
Where can I return my Delaware library books?
You may return Delaware public library books to any public library within the state of Delaware. We will make sure that materials get back to their proper home. The South Coastal Library has two outside drop-off slots near the front entrance, one for books and one for audio-visual materials.
What if my items are overdue or lost?
If your items are overdue, bring them back as soon as you can. The fines stop adding up as soon as the materials are checked in and the items will be available for others to use.
