Support Us

There are many ways you can support your library such as monetary donations, donating materials, joining our Friends organization, or volunteering!

Donations

  • Donations may include Memorial materials.
    •  Memorial donations pay tribute to a departed loved one or express your sympathy for someone who has recently passed.  With your donation, the library will purchase the item in the subject of your choice.  A bookplate will note your name and the name of the person in whose memory the item is being given.  An acknowledgement will also be sent to the family, if appropriate.
  • An  Honor materials donation can also be the perfect gift for any occasion.
    • The library invites you to celebrate special occasions by making a contribution to the library.  You may mark someone’s birthday or anniversary, salute a person who is graduating or retiring, pay tribute to a veteran, or express a sincere thank you.  With your donation, we will select an item in the subject of your choice.  A bookplate will note the name of the person being honored and the occasion the book commemorates.

Donating Materials

We are happy to accept most “gently used” items, except for the following:

  • Encyclopedias, condensed books, magazines, VHS/cassette tapes
  • Damaged or insect-infested items
  • Mildewed or smoke-filled materials
  • Materials that are older than 10 years

Due to COVID-19 we are only accepting materials on Tuesdays from 2-4 pm. Please stop by our library lobby during this time.

Volunteering

Volunteers are a prized part of the customer service team at South Coastal Library. Join our library team composed of nearly 60 volunteers and 14 staff members! Or perhaps join our Fundraising Group, The Friends of the South Coastal Library.

Duties

  • Our volunteers’ primary goal is to serve our customers by keeping materials checked in, accurately shelved, and ready for the next reader. Occasional special projects may interest some members of our service team. We reward our dedicated cadre of volunteers with a variety of incentive programs.

Qualifications

  • Our unpaid volunteers have remarked that library work utilizes more skills than are evident from the patron side of the circulation desk. Volunteer assignments require dependable, detail-oriented workers who strive for accuracy and consistency, and who respect the confidentiality of our patrons.
  • Shelving books is a physically demanding activity, which requires much bending, stooping and stretching.
  • Flexibility and a friendly, helpful personality are a plus!

Applications

Are you ready to join our volunteer team? Please stop by the circulation desk and pick up a volunteer application. Our Volunteer Coordinator will review your application and contact you for an interview.  Applications are kept on file for four months. We hope you will join us at South Coastal! Our volunteers’ donated time saves taxpayers dollars and contributes to our patron-friendly library and cultural center. Thank you for your interest!
