How to Set Up
Free Email
through Gmail
1. Connect to the Internet. At the top of the window that opens, click on the address bar. Type gmail.com in the address bar, and press Enter on your keyboard.
2. Click on "Create an account" on the lower right hand side.
3. Click in the empty boxes and type your first name and last name. Choose a Login Name. If you want to remain anonymous, don't use your real name, phone number, zip code, or other personal information. Pet names work well, or just make up a nickname for yourself. Then click on "Check Availability!" If the login name is already being used, you will be prompted to choose a different name. (Adding numbers usually helps.)
4. Now create a password for yourself. Make it a nonsensical combination of letters and numbers that’s hard to guess. Write down your login name and password, so you don’t forget them! Then, click on the boxes indicated to remove the green checkmark. Next, click on the blue arrow to the right of "Choose a Security Question," and click on your choice of question. Type your answer in the box below it. (This question is used if you forget your password and need Gmail's help to access your account.) Ignore the other boxes. Finally, type your birth date in the indicated format: MM/DD/YYYY.
5. In the Word Verification box, simply type the warped upper and lower case letters displayed above. (No, this isn’t a vision test! It’s a security tool.) Next, you MUST click "I accept. Create my account." to activate your account.
6. Congratulations! You now have a free Gmail account! Click on the "Show me my account" button to get to your Inbox.
